| Farm Sanctuary offers the following placement services for
farm animals:
1.
PLACEMENT E-MAIL ALERT:
A weekly placement alert is sent
to all members of our Farm Animal Adoption Network
(FAAN). All members of our FAAN project have successfully
completed an adoption application and process. Due to the
large volume of placement requests, this is a ONE-TIME placement
service option.
2. PLACEMENT BULLETIN BOARD: Bulletin placement listings
are posted on our website for 60 days. If the animal(s) are
not placed after 60 days, the placement listing will remain
on the bulletin board if room is available. Please notify
Farm Sanctuary at: shelter@farmsanctuary.org
if the animal(s) are placed to make room for additional placements.
To help facilitate placement requests, we ask you to complete
the PLACEMENT FORM and indicate
if you would like to use the E-mail Alert, Bulletin Board,
or both placement services. Please note, that since placement
notices are on the internet and can be widely distributed,
you should confirm that any individuals who contact you can
provide a suitable and appropriate lifelong home for the animal(s).
Since Farm Sanctuary placement alerts and postings may
be forwarded throughout the web, we strongly encourage you
to confirm whether someone is a member of our Farm Animal
Adoption Network before placing your animal(s) with anyone.
You can find out whether someone is an approved Farm Sanctuary
FAAN member by calling our placement coordinator in New York
at 607-583-2276 ext. 266 during normal business hours or emailing:
placement@farmsanctuary.org.

We are seeking a caring home for a 14-day-old female chick with a disabled leg. If at all possible, we'd also like to include the "companion chick" we put in with the disabled chick for company (also 14 days old).
The disabled chick only has solid use of one leg. The other leg is permanently bent at the joint, making it difficult to use. The leg was in this condition when the chick hatched, and has not improved since (despite trying a common chick leg brace for 10 days).
The chick can get around on its good leg, and it is eating and drinking like a healthy chick--it definitely has a will to live!
At the moment it is separated and in a cage inside our house (with the companion chick), but we cannot keep it inside indefinitely. We have dozens of chickens, and so also cannot realistically keep this one isolated. Our fear is that it will be picked on relentlessly by the other chickens because it is smaller, slower and undoubtedly will be perceived as weaker (this is a very common tendency among larger flocks of chickens). The chick would likely be able to be incorporated into a small flock of 2-5 chickens or so.
The companion chick was born weak, but bounced back quickly and is acting like a healthy chick. Like the disabled chick, though, it is quite a bit smaller than the other chicks that hatched at the same time. Ideally we'd like to have someone take both chicks, as they have always been together and the disabled chick would likely be a little lonely on its own. Alternatively, this chick would likely be fine if kept next to another critter (a rabbit or another kind of bird in a cage, for example).
Please feel free to call with any questions.

I am posting this for my neighbor as she does not speak English and has put placing the birds in my hands. Her husband has just been deported and she is now a single mother with three young children and a huge mortgage; she can no longer afford the care of the birds and may need to move to a location that will not permit farm animals.
The birds in question are a white leghorn rooster, a gamecock, and a mixed breed red hen. None are "tame" but all are used to handling. The white rooster "Alex" can be aggressive to strangers but is very sweet to his family and comes when called. The gamecock "Feo" and hen "Rosa" are bonded but if need be can be separated. I can keep Rosa if we can not place her but can not take either rooster as I have one very aggressive rooster myself.
I live in the Poughkeepsie area of the Hudson Valley of NY but can drive about five hours to deliver, meet, or hook up with a transport chain. I will be requiring vet/personal reference and a phone interview. Please e-mail me at educ82libr8@yahoo.com if you can help these poor birds and their worried family.

Herbert is a 4 month old Rhode Island Red Rooster. He was dumped in a local park after Easter. Herbert is very good around people, other animals and even enjoys being pet. He crows a little in the morning and in the evening (but I live in a subdivision and the neighbors have already complained), and stays in the garage from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. I will provide 200 pounds of feed and lots of loaves of bread to anybody who will provide him a home for life. |

Male - 20 years old.
So, here is my story.....5 years ago, I bought a 15 year old Appaloosa gelding(WYAKIN). About a year and a half later, it was discovered that he was losing his vision. Recently, I met with the vet, and had him recheck Wyakin's eyes. His vision has deteriorated and he is basically totally blind. Otherwise, he is in perfect health and just turned 20 on Feb. 3rd. So, I was given several "options". One was to put him down, which I dont believe is a fair option. He cant see, however, other than that, he is perfectly well mannered and deserving of living out the rest of his life. Second, I could pay board to keep him at the barn, however, I cannot afford this. Third option is to turn him out 24 hours/day somewhere in PA, but he would not be groomed or clipped or taken care of at all.
He needs LOVE. and grooming. and attention. He just cant see. I picture giving him to someone who loves horses.... just loves horses and could groom him and love him and give him the chance to live. ANY SUGGESTIONS OUT THERE?!?! PLEASE EMAIL ME OR CALL ME!
THANKS!!
Wyakin gets turned out every day with 3 other horses for 3-4 hrs.

| This handsome leghorn fella just showed up here on my
small farm about six months ago. I've been happy to have him around but
unfortunately as he's grown up he has become very bossy and is making my
yard an unsafe place for me and for other people. He's not a bad,
mean-spirited bird, I think if he had a proper environment with some
hens of his own he'd mellow out. He can see my hens and roosters (I
have my chickens in coops for predator safety) and I think he's very
frustrated that he can't access the girls. Unfortunately, I do not have
any additional coop space to house him, and can't add him to my current
flocks as he is much larger and more aggressive.

One very beautiful Silver-Laced Wyandotte rooster in good health. Located in western Massachusetts. One year old (hatched May 2007). Our family fought the city to keep our suburban hens (as pets) and won; this fellow couldn't stay (hens only was the verdict), so we gave him to friends in the country, so we could visit. Now they don't want him because he crows and their children are afraid of him. He has never attacked anyone. He does what roosters do: mates with hens, and struts his stuff. He will let you pick him up, and he loves to have his wattle stroked. He would be a great addition to a farm sanctuary, or for someone who wants to keep chickens as companions. His name is Carmelo (originally Carmela- named after Italian great-grandmother who raised hens in Queens, NY-until we realized she was a he). Right now he's living alone in a barn stall with limited natural light. We visit him, but we can tell he's lonely. We are longtime vegetarians and don't want him to become someone's dinner (obviously this would be easy enough to arrange)--can someone please help us, and help Carmelo? We are willing to drive within reason. (We will be visiting PA & NJ soon.) Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. |

King pigeons (also called Utility pigeons) are bred for meat (squab) and sold at Live Food Markets. Some escape or are set free but, because they are poor flyers (bred to have large bodies & small wings) that have never fledged (they're raised in crates), they can't survive free, like other pigeons. Most are killed by cars, dogs and hawks but a few are brought into animal shelters every week. Of course- they have a hard time getting adopted... when's the last time you thought about going to the pound to adopt a pigeon?
Thing is, they make surprisingly great pets. They are smart, calm, easy going and easy to tame. They can be kept indoors with the family or outside in a predator & weather-proof aviary or coop. I like to place mated pairs and I'll include a pair of dummy eggs (pigeon birth control). Recommended donation to Mickaboo is $10 per bird.
I met my first King pigeon as a volunteer at SF ACC and, since then, I've been working with ACC & Mickaboo & Pigeon Talk to help find them good, safe, forever homes as pets. I'll only place a pigeon after I do a home visit (which turns into delivery service for you) and I reserve the right to refuse an adoption.

These little roosters had a very bumpy start to life. Hatched around 3/22/08, they were used in a classroom science project. They were to be killed at the end but instead were stolen as a school prank then dumped on a highway on a frigid night. Some are Delawares, a medium sized breed with pure white with soft grey and black specks on wings tail and neck. Some are pure white Leghorns. They are still peeping and have a few more weeks of Chick Starter ahead. They have been acclimated to living outdoors. They can fly really well. They will be thrilled to explore somebody's garden and meet a new flock. They will be neutered by our veterinarian to make them a gentle and quiet addition to any flock.

She was originally raised as a Polo Pony so she likes to run (even at this age). She has a good heart and does well in a round pen or arena. She travels well. |

"Pig-Pig" was purchased last spring to be used as a feeder pig, but I got too atatched to him. He has grown to be too large for his pen which was meant to be temporary (its actually a chiken coop). I have spent lots of time and money putting up electric fencing to give him more room but he escapes and causes problems with the neighbors (they have fed him in the past). He loves his chiken coop but its not an ideal situation for a pig to spend the rest of his life.If you can give Pig-Pig a good home please contact me. |

I have 6 goats that I saved from being sent to slaughter but now I have too many animals and not enough room. I hate to part with them but I no longer have the space or money for them.
All are wethers (castrated males). They are super sweet and make great brush animals or lawn mowers. The Angoras need to get a hair cut twice a year but then you have lovely mohair to sell or used yourself.
I would prefer to have them go in pairs or as a herd. They need to have a safe and secure fenced area and a shelter to keep them away from predators at night. I can help with transportation if needed. Email for photos.
Please email or call if you have a forever home for these sweeties.

We are asking for our pigs to be placed, because, we had these so called friends that had a farm and we didnt, so we asked them to house our pigs until we could find another place. We provided feed, for our pigs and his, along with going over as often as possible, to give our pigs the love they required from us, and out of the clear blue, these "friends" called us one day and told us to get the pigs out of there or else. Being that these pigs were our daughters pets we continued to plead for them to keep them there a little longer. Finally, a few days later, we received a phone call from this "friend" saying that he got a hold of his lawyer and if we dont have our pigs out of there by May 18, his attorney gave him permission to bring OUR pigs to the auction, for the sale. We are begging, please, somebody take these wonderful animals before its too late. Spotty, the male, is just like a dog, he is loving and sweet, Charlotte and Red, the females, are loving as well, but are more on the shy side. They would love to be placed together if at all possible, and Spotty must go to a home where he will be altered. These pigs are like our children and having to do this is breaking our hearts. We hope someone can help us. We don't have a way to bring them to anywhere, we dont have access to a trailer.

All are friendly, have nice personalities, and are in need of a home that is experienced with goats as I have more goats than I can properly care for. (Angora goats are much milder in temperament than other breeds of goats) If needed to place in a good home, would be willing to pay to have the buck surgically castrated. Can transport within reasonable driving distance. Located in central NJ. Looking for good permanent homes, so they do not end up at slaughter.

They are currently living at our dog shelter and while they have their own separate space, we feel that they could have a better environment to live their lives. If you would like to give Wilbur and Charlotte a home where they can live their lives happily, please contact me!

Val is a 6 year old Angus steer. I showed him while in Vet school and he can be haltered and walked, however he does need to go into a chute for vaccinations, etc. He is currently housed with 2 llamas, 10 goats, and chickens. We are in a drought and short on hay and grass and I am being forced to start thinking about finding him a home which does not end up at the slaughter house. He would appreciate living with another bovine. He loves to be scratched and loves apple/oatmeal treats.

Charlotte was given to a friend when her mother died. She bottle raised her from birth and because of all the attention she received, she is incredibly sweet, loving and friendly. When she hears someone, she immediately runs over, grunting away for ear and back sratches. She lives on a ranch in a nice pen, by herself. She's happy but maybe a little lonely. It would be ideal to find her a home with other pigs. She is very large at this point so she'll never be a little pot-bellied indoor pig but she's a real doll and would make a wonderful addition to any farm. She'd follow you around like a dog all day. |

Daphne and Julian, 2 tame white Pekin ducks need a new home. I would love for them to be with other domestic ducks and have a pond or lake to swim on. Like all domesticated ducks, they need protection from predators at night. A fenced in yard or a pen that they can go into at night will keep them safe. |

Everyone is now in good health, and seeking permanent homes. The ducks are of various ages. Most are Pekin, but there are also Runner crosses and Rouen. These ducks would best be placed in male-female pairs, but if you can take any, plesase call. Transport may be available to some states. |

Two Jerseys- mother and daughter- and a holstien. Can all go together or be separated though we'd like to keep mom and baby together. All up to date on shots and vet care. Can travel. Been well fed and cared for with no health issues since rescue in 5/01
These three were part of a well publicized rescue (newspaper articles available) from a private owner in NY who starved, mutilated and killed many animals before being caught and prosecuted. These cows and the rescues with them were half starved and very scared of people. The baby used to climb in the hay ring to hide. In the years since, the mother and holstien have come to be able to pet on and hand feed treats but the 'baby' does not like to be pet though she will approach and come close to you to check things out. Due to a serious (person) health issue, we've had to relocate from 40 acres to a smaller lot that won't support all of us. We MUST be sure that the cows will be kept safe and part of a farm environment never to be used for meat purposes as they are like part of our family. Please call if you have interest and we'll be happy to answer any questions. |

Three Roosters Looking For New Home |

Three roosters are living in a vacant lot in Pittsburgh, PA, next to the school where I teach. The lot actually belongs to the school board, so erecting a chicken coop is out of the question. The roosters are in desperate need of a properly equipped home where they can live out their lives as pets. The city is no place for them, and they currently have no shelter available where they can escape the elements.
We have no idea how they came to live on our school grounds, but no one in the neighborhood (aside from our faculty) has been caring for them since last spring.
They are good-natured roosters. They get along very well with each other and they graciously tolerate the few of us who feed them. We've named them Rob, Chip and Ernie. Their ages are unknown.
I have photos available here:
http://www.ghoulnextdoor.com/roosters.html
The pictures don't really do them justice. Two of the roosters are white with faint black spots, and the other is a beautiful golden color. If I can get better photos, I'll post them on that web page.
We are all very concerned about their health and welfare, particularly now that the weather has gotten so cold. They're not lacking for food, but they desperately need shelter and a safe space to be roosters. Ideally, we'd like them to stay together, but we'll be happy if any one of them gets a proper home. We do NOT want these guys to end up on a dinner plate. They are PETS, and as one teacher put it yesterday, "they have become the soul of our school."
If you can give these roosters a home, please e-mail me at: kyra1@earthlink.net or call the phone number I've listed here.
Thank you! |

Paisley is an 8 month old farm sow, she was raised inside of the house with humans. Paisley lived with humans until she was 4 months of age. She now lives in a barn, and barn owner is giving paisley's human mother no other choice but to rehome paisley. Farm owner wants to butcher paisley, if she cannot find a home soon. Paisley is small for 8 months old, probably wont get full sized as her growth was stunted. Paisley loves belly rubs and treats and is a very healthy girl. |

Snowball and his son, Thing One, need homes. They are very sweet, tame bantam Silkie roosters. Snowball is pure white and his son is a "partridge" which is black with pretty gold highlights. We are not zoned agricultural and our neighbors are complaining bitterly about the crowing which is really not that loud since these are bantams and it is only intermittent.
